This 50-mile tour crosses a southerly swathe of the Cheshire landscape to introduce you to some of the county’s premium foodie haunts.

33 - Start out at The Pheasant Inn, a pub in the Peckforton Hills offering spectacular views and fresh local food.

34 - Just 10 minutes away, Cheshire Farm Ice Cream near Tattenhall buzzes with life as families flock here to try the dairy treat – available in over 30 flavours – and to enjoy the indoor and outdoor playgrounds.

35 - A 20-minute drive takes you to your next stop the Cock O’ Barton in Barton Village. This former coaching inn is now dressed to impress as a cool, contemporary pub-restaurant.

36 - A few minutes in the car will take you to Carden Park Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa, where head chef Robert Price makes the most of the local flavours.

37 - The Bull is next on your list just a few minutes away in Shocklach. This village pub has had a fabulous makeover and is serving a flavoursome menu sourced from the area.

38 - Drive for a further 20 minutes to reach The Cholmondeley Arms, a pub-restaurant set in a former school. Chef Clarissa Dickson-Wright is a loyal fan.

39 - A 10-minute drive will bring you to the imposing fort, Peckforton Castle, where you can travel back in time, while enjoying the freshest local food in its gourmet 1851 Restaurant.

40 - Ten minutes further on, you’ll reach Bunbury Water Mill. Today’s restored mill is a museum, where you can see how flour and oatmeal is produced.

41 - Cheerbrook Quality Farm Foods, on the edge of Nantwich, is a 20-minute drive away. An antidote to supermarket shopping, the comprehensive choice on sale here is fresh and local, including meat, vegetables, preserves and delicatessen fare.

42 - Your final stop is just a 20-minute drive away. Godfrey Williams and Sons, a family-run delicatessen dating from the 19th century which has recently launched its own range of blended cheeses.
