Tatton Park
Historic House / Palace
Winner of ‘Cheshire’s Large Visitor Attraction of the Year’ in 2009 and 2010 Tatton Park annually welcomes over 750,000 visitors who come to enjoy the 1,000 acres of parkland and to visit the stunning 19th century mansion, 50 acres of award-winning gardens, a working rare breed farm and Tudor old hall. Tatton is regarded as one of Britain’s most complete historic estates with evidence of Stone Age people hunting on the site and farming activity in the Bronze Age.
The estate was acquired by the Egerton family in 1598 and owned by them for a further 360 years. Tatton Park was left to the National Trust on the death of Maurice, 4th and last Baron Egerton of Tatton, in 1958. Tatton Park hosts a varied programme of over 100 events each year ranging from rewarding adult learning courses to classic car shows and entertaining outdoor theatre to informative exhibitions. During 2012 Tatton hosts the third Tatton Park Biennial staging contemporary art across the estate. Stableyard shopping and dining includes several shops and a quality restaurant specialising in fresh local produce, all combining to make Tatton Park a perfect day out!
